Anti-profiteering drive intensified

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration has intensified the on-going anti-profiteering drive in the Federal Capital, says a press release issued here on Tuesday by the ICT administration. On Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner (City) Islamabad Muhammad Ali conducted surprise price-checking in the Melody Market and imposed heavy fines Rs 11,200 on the profiteers for over charging and not displaying the rate list of food items, fruits and vegetables. The shopkeepers were directed to display the rate list of food items prominently at their premises and ensure the quality of food items.
The AC also carried out inspection of hotels and bakeries in Melody Market and imposed on the spot Rs 68,500 fines on hotels, bakeries and restaurants owners for poor sanitary and hygienic conditions at the premises.
The district health department sanitary inspectors, Islamabad, was also accompanied by the assistant commissioner. The AC directed the hotels owners to immediately improve the sanitary and hygienic conditions of their kitchens and ensure the quality of food items at hotels and bakeries. Food sampling was carried out and sample of various food items including ghee, sweets were taken and sent to the laboratory for test. The hotels owners were directed to ensure vaccination of their workers and cooks regularly.
