The tug of war between big guns finally ended as the Model Town Society election was swept by the Model Town Group, which was able to secure 16 society managerial seats and both the executive seats of the president and the vice president.
Sahabzada Saifur Rehman who was contesting for the MTS president seat against Rana Mateen Ahmad got 1,161 votes while Daud Bari contesting for the VP seat scored 1,187 beating Mustaq Ahmad Dhiliion from the Unity Group.
The Model Town Group which is openly backed by a former Lahore Nazim dominated the election overall. A total number of 2,222 votes were casted in the election out of 3,926 qualified votes. By the criteria of one vote per house Block A has 313, Block B, 378, Block C, 477, Block D 477, Block E, 416, Block F, 373, Block H, 434, and Block K 373 votes.
Sahabzada Saif ur rehman was able to secure 1,162 votes, Rana Mateen scored 1,060 for the president seat while Daud Bari scored 1,187 and Mushatq Ahmad Dhillion secured 1,025 votes for the VP seat. Dr Abdurrehman, Rehanurrehman, Riaz Rehman, Wajahat Ali Khan, Akbar Salampuri, Akram Ullah Bandiyal, Farrukh Shah, Abdul Waheed, Rizwan Mehmood, Fayyaz Uddin, Kashif Mehmood Sheikh, Malik Anjum, Naila Naghma, Ayyaz Iqbal, Chaurdry Zulifiqar and Askar Ali Khan were amongst the winner in managerial elections.
The Model Town Group had initiated the celebrations even before the results were announced. Workers of the group danced and also distributed sweets amongst the participants.
Forty-one candidates had registered from both the groups. This was the first time in the MT’s history that such a large turnout had been witnessed.
