PCB keeps Misbah as captain for Asia Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board has no plans to strip Misbah-ul-Haq of the captaincy in any format of the sport in the near future, in the wake of ODI series whitewash against England. “Misbah is going to be retained as captain for the Asia Cup and they are no immediate plans to sack him as captain of the one-day or T20 squads,” a senior official of the board said. He also ruled out any major overhaul in the national selection committee before the Asia Cup.
“All this talk about Misbah being replaced as captain for limited overs cricket is not correct. So far he is captain for all three formats and this issue is not even on the agenda of the Governing board meeting that is due to be held on March 1,” the official said. He said the performance of the team, captain or selection committee was not on the agenda of the Governing board which would mostly deal with passing the audited budget report of last fiscal year, release of funds for under construction projects and the Woolfe report on the governance of the International Cricket Council. “If any member wants to discuss the team performance or related issue that can be done but it is not on the agenda,” the official said. He said reports that the national selection committee would be changed after the England series were not correct. “Only the coaching staff will be changed before the Asia Cup that is decided. The rest will remain the same. Then it is up to the Chairman of the board to decide what he wants to do after the Asia Cup,” the official said.

  6. We didn’t lose “because” of him. And I still believe that if he hadn’t played like that against India. We would have lost that game in the 30th over. He’s an excellent captian and a really good player. People who criticize him either need to grow up, start watching more cricket and think positively. That’s all

  7. YES HE SHOULD BE! The way we change captains and players is the cause of our inconsistency. Keep them long term and give them each time to fix their weaknesses. Pk cricket team is an awesome team, they just need find tuning..which wont happen when players are constantly switched around. FYI: Misbah’s statistics make him dependable.. that’s a good reason itself..he’s a good player. Be proud & supportive of your team and trust them. They have worked really hard to be where they are.

  9. Actually no, the way he was playing in the beginning *10 runs from 33 balls* that was the worst thing he could have done. Plus, in a one-day game, we need a captain that can lead the team, this guy can’t lead a team. A player like Afridi may not be the best batsman, but when it comes to leading, he’s THE best captain pakistan can have, better than misbah at least

  11. He didn’t play slow in the end. When more than half the team was remaining, he played like a test match, and when the tail was exposed, he hit. It didn’t make a difference because there was no hope or chance left though, he was the one that made the required RR rise, so a few good shots did no good when not necessary

  12. look at the last t20. 1st game, pitch was so bad Pak batted 1st and got almost 150. EVERYONE criticized them on the low target. Today England gave a target of 150 but they don’t criticize their own team..they always promote them! …but when we don’t like on little thing ..we demand to switch things around making our team suffer unpredictable results. Eng is considered best in t20.. and we showed that we are EQUALLY as good! Why r people complaining?!

  15. only half the team consists of batsmen. So I don’t know which other half you’re talking about. Maybe you don’t understand that we can’t rely on tail enders to chase. He was the most senior batsman and he had to stay on the wicket.

You’ll realize that actually cricket is a total different game that ones own khayali palao. You can sit on the couch and say do this or do that. Should have done this or that. But in reality. He’s the captian, the senior player. And what he did was best at that time. “If you can’t do it, get out early and let the others come in:. LOOL. That’s not how it works. It’s not tape ball cricket.

I don’t deny the fact that he’s the most senior player on the team, he has talent, but a captain is not always a senior player, then there’s no point of youngsters, he’s senior, but not the best captain, he can’t lead a team, it’s the team itself that got us far, not just his captaincy. The batting side needs to be worked on, and he should leave his spot like dilshan did after losing to south africa
