IHP, WHO collaborate to master the mosquitoes

Institute of Health of Public Health Lahore in coordination with Department of Health under technical support of World Health Organisation (WHO) organised a one-day training workshop of Programme Directors, District health development center on dengue prevention and control. Dr Babar Alam, WHO Operations Officer Punjab, Dr Rubina Sarmad, Head of MCH Department, Dr Rabia Arshad, Head of Public Health Practice IPH also attended the workshop. The objective of training workshop was to develop a pool of Master Trainers from each district of Punjab to train the rest of the staff in Dengue Prevention activities.
Speakers said that seasonal extremes have provided a window of opportunity for the health managers to prepare and reorganise themselves to combat the disease this season. The main objective of organising training workshop at IPH was to provide feedback to the training team regarding further trainings for the remaining master trainers at district level and polish their capabilities to act as guides for dengue prevention and control set up. Speakers gave an in-depth review on the vector responsible for dengue and pointed out the misconception many had about the adoptability of variation in the life cycle of the Aides mosquito. They also discussed the results of local research issue and warned the participants that the mosquito was more than capable of containing its existence in the region and spreading the disease.
Dr Rubina Sarmad also talked about organisational framework for dengue prevention and control. She highlighted the job description and responsibilities of programme directors DHDCs, with special reference to vector control.
