A scavenger boy was arrested while attempting to steal 200 blood bags from Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) while PIMS Executive Director Prof Dr Mehmood Jamal constituted a three-member committee to investigate the incident. According to the hospital sources, a boy was found involved in attempting to steal over 200 blood bags and platelets Saturday morning. He was arrested by security officials of the hospital and handed over to police for further investigation. The sources said that taking immediate action, PIMS Executive Director Dr Mehmood Jamal constituted a three-member committee to investigate the issue.
When contacted, PIMS spokesman Dr Zulfiqar Ghauri said that he had heard about the incident. “The boy who was actually a scavenger was collecting garbage also attempted to steal the blood bags,” he added. Dr Ghauri said security personnel monitored every individual entering the hospital premises. “According to my information, the number of blood bottles of 200 is not correct and has been exaggerated,” he said. The PIMS spokesman confirmed the incident and said that the PIMS executive director had formed an inquiry committee to probe the incident.
