Army defeat Wapda in National Baseball

Defending champions Army earned yet another notable victory when it toppled Wapda 10-1 in the second match of the Shaheed Kamran National Inter-departmental Baseball Championship at the UCP ground here on Sunday. The match which was decided in the 9th innings when Army scored five runs in the 8th innings to make a difference of nine runs as the match was closed in the 9th innings as per rules. Army scored one run in the first innings through Arshad, while Wapda failed to score any run. Army further increased the lead in the second innings adding two more runs through Arsalan and Imtiaz Ali. No run could be scored in the next three innings by both the sides. Army again started scoring from the 6th innings earning two more runs. This time, Zafar and Arslan chipped in with one run each to increase the lead to Army to 5-0. After scoring no run in the 7th innings, Army forged ahead in the 8th innings plundering five runs through, Fakeer, Farooq Khan, Arsalan, Imtiaz and Arshad, who hit a home-run. For Wapda, Zaheer opened the account scoring the lone run of their innings. Wapda will meet Police in the next match on Monday. Earlier, Army had defeated Police in the opening match on Saturday. Major Umar was the chief guest of the match. Meanwhile, secretary Pakistan Federation Baseball Khawar Shah said that after this championship, the names of 25 probables will be announced for the national training camp, which is being held in Lahore, soon after the championship, to pick and prepare the national team for the forthcoming 10th South-West Asia Cup, being held at the Punjab Stadium here from March 23 to 28.
