Advisor to the chief minister Zakia Shahnawaz on Friday attended a seminar at the Punjabi Complex (Gaddafi Stadium) to mark the World Social Justice Day under the sponsorship of the Bonded Labour Liberation Front (BLLF) and the Support Social Protection and Decent Work Project in association with the European Union and Actionaid-Pakistan.
Shahnawaz said the provision of social justice to everyone could bring a revolutionary and positive change in society, and the Punjab government was paying special attention towards ensuring justice to the people, particularly the brick kiln workers.
She said the chief minister had directed all departments concerned to inspect the workplaces on regular basis and punish those involved in denying workers’ rights and violating labour rules.
She said the government would make all necessary steps to provide minimum wages of Rs 517 and other facilities such as social security cards, old-age benefits to workers. She directed the District Officer Labour to constitute a committee to prepare recommendations in connection with implementing labour laws & giving rights to workers. Justice (Retd) Nasira Javaid Iqbal on the occasion said the brick kiln workers should only elect public representatives who could work for their betterment.
