Electricity of pumping stations was cut-off by Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), causing shortage of water to Karachi on Saturday.
Managing Director (MD) Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Misbahuddin Fareed said that KESC had cut-off electricity to different pumping stations including Dhabeji, Gharo and Pipri pumping stations.
MD KWSB said that the shortage could turn into disaster for Karachiities as almost 5.5 million gallons water was supplied to Karachi through these pumping stations. “I have told Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad regarding the step taken by KESC,” he added.
Responding to the issue, spokesman for KESC told media that KESC had cut-off electricity due to non-payment of electricity dues adding that Water Board was in debt of one billion rupees and they had only cleared 10 percent of their dues.
