The Sohrab Goth area turned into a battleground on Friday after unidentified assailants shot dead an Awami National Party (ANP) activist, sparking riots that left two vehicles gutted and the Karachi-Hyderabad highway blocked for several hours.
Police said the ANP activist identified as Khairuddin Mehsud, 30, son of Sohrab Khan Mehsud, was gunned down near his house in Hasan Noman Colony within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station.
Police officials said that two armed attackers on a motorcycle shot at the victim at least four times, killing him on the spot. The body of the deceased was shifted to a nearby private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
The body was then shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where a large number of ANP workers also gathered.
After the incident, hordes of people gathered at the Super Highway and protested against the murder of the political activist.
The protesters burnt tyres on the road and pelted stones on the passing vehicles, blocking the vehicular traffic. They also set two vehicles on fire.
Later, a heavy contingent of Rangers and police personnel arrived at the scene and baton-charged the protesting people and also used teargas shells.
The police also detained about half a dozen suspects for disturbing the law and order situation.
After an hour, the Super Highway was reopened for vehicular traffic.
Talking with the media at the JPMC, ANP Sohrab Goth leader Din Mohammad Wazir said Mehsud was an active worker of the ANP. He owned a general store in the area and also dealt with property issues.
“The deceased was playing a vital role against drug peddlers in the Sohrab Goth area,” Wazir said. “The drug peddlers’ groups might be involved in his murder.”
SHO Ghaffar Jumani said the deceased was the former ANP president for Hasan Noman Colony and currently was associated with ANP Ward 18 as an activist. He said the case of his murder and the riots that broke out in the aftermath of his killing would also be registered.
The victim hailed from South Waziristan and was unmarried.

  1. I have been browsing on-line greater than 3 hours as of late, but I never found any attention-grabbing article like yours.
It’s pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all site owners and bloggers made good content material as you probably did, the net can be much more useful than ever before.
