The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday directed the Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence MI) to submit detailed report on target killings and law and order situation in Balochistan by March 07 while agencies sought time for submission of the report.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan was hearing two cases – a petition filed by Balochistan High Court Bar Association (BHCBA) against the incidents of target killings, kidnapping for ransom and the overall poor law and order situation in the province, and the killings of MPA Balochistan Bakhtiar Domki’s wife and daughter.
During the last hearing, the court had ordered the ISI and MI to submit the report. Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq informed the court that he had conveyed the court’s message to ISI and MI and that the agencies had requested that time be given to them for filing of the report.
While giving March 7 deadline, the court told AG Haq to inform the agencies that investigations into Domki’s family murder case should also be included in the report.
The attorney general informed the court that the ISI and MI had requested for an in-camera briefing in the court’s chambers due to the sensitivity of the case.
While rejecting a report submitted before the court by the additional advocate general of Sindh, Justice Tariq Javed observed that the findings in the Domki’s family murder probe were equivalent to “zero”.
The report gave details from eye-witnesses which suspected that two cars – Suzuki Alto and Daihatsu Cuore – were used by the assailants.
The additional advocate general told the court that police had launched a search operation in which they inspected 500 Alto and 108 Cuore.
Justice Jan observed that the court had directed the police to carry out investigations with their “eyes wide open,” whereas, the findings suggest otherwise. “The police have failed to produce tangible results,” he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Niaz Khoso informed the court that the bullets were fired from the same gun and that further investigations are underway.
The court also summoned Inspector General of Sindh in the next hearing and ordered that he should inform the court why supervision in the case was not done properly.
The court had ordered earlier that senior police officials will supervise the case and in the hearing, replies were given from the constable’s file.
