Mehmoodabad police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a doctor who aborted foetuses and sold them to hospitals for research. Briefing the media, DSP Saeed Rind said police raided Al Mustafa Clinic in Mehmoodabad and arrested Dr Nuzhat Aslam for allegedly aborting foetuses and selling them to various private hospitals for research. Quoting the doctor, Rind said she aided unmarried couples in aborting their unwanted children. The DSP said the doctor sometimes threw the foetuses away and sometimes sold them to various private hospitals for research. According to her statement, she used a chemical that can keep the foetuses fresh up to seven years. The police officer said the raid was made successful with the cooperation of a Suzuki driver who had been hired by the doctor to dump the foetuses. Rind said the doctor has been shifted to the Women’s Police Station for further investigation. On the other hand, sources in the Mehmoodabad police said the doctor was arrested the previous night from the Tariq Clinic in Chakra Goth, Korangi. Sources said the doctor kept changing clinics, adding that she had admitted dumping five foetuses in Korangi Nadi that were recovered a few days ago.
THREE KILLED: Three people were killed and one injured in different incidents of violence across the city. A 25-year-old man was killed and another injured by firing of two unidentified men at Chakla Street in Kharadar. Police said Muhammad Ali was sitting with his friend Gulbaz Khan when two motorcyclists opened fire on them. Both friends suffered serious bullet injuries and were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where Ali succumbed to his injuries. Similarly, another 25-year-old man was killed by unidentified motorcyclists in Block-4 of Shah Faisal Colony. Police said Qasim Shah was in the area to see his friend when he was gunned down. The victim was a resident of Natha Khan Goth. Separately, the Bin Qasim police recovered a teenager’s body from the watercourse of the Karachi Development Authority in Gulshan-e-Hadeed. Police said 17-year-old Kashif Saleem, resident of Pipri, had gone missing on his way back home. The victim had been working at a bungalow as a guard. Police suspect personal enmity behind the murder.
