As many as eight police officials of Islamabad police have been given departmental punishment for misusing and illegally handing impounded vehicles to their friends, it has been learnt. A senior police officer told Pakistan Today that on Wednesday Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Operations, awarded punishments to eight police officials for giving and taking confiscated vehicles on ‘Supardari’
Those who were awarded punishment are; Inspector Ashraf Kahut, he was demoted to Sub-inspector, Inspector Khalid Masood Akram, forfeiture of two years service, Sub-Inspector Rana Akram forfeiture of 2 years from service, Inspector Muhammad Ashraf, demoted, Assistant Sub Inspector Alamgir, forfeiture of 3 years service, Assistant Sub Inspector Gulam Rasool, forfeiture of two years service. While constable Waheed was dismissed from service on the charges of misusing impounded vehicles.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector Asjad Mahmood of SabziMandi Police Station was rewarded class-II certificate with Rs1000 for writing a confidential report on the negligence of Sabzimandi Police Station against crimes. The officer said that above mentioned police officials were awarded punishment in the light of an inquiry report, prepared by AIG Operations, Sultan Azam Tamuri. He was directed by Islamabad High Court to conduct a detailed inquiry on the issue of impounded vehicles.
On February 5, 2012, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) directed the police high-ups to proceed against those officials who misused confiscated vehicles.
The learned Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddique also directed the Session Judge Islamabad and Chief Commissioner Islamabad to proceed against the magistrates and assistant commissioners as well for handing over cars on ‘Supardari’.
During the hearing AIG Operations, Islamabad, apprised the court that three police officials including Inspector Zafar and Constable Muhammad Saeed had been suspended for getting vehicles on Supardari. He also informed the court that during the period of 2008 to 2011, 11 influential persons managed to get cars of their choice on Supardari.
Police arrest two proclaimed offenders and nine outlaws: The city police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two proclaimed offenders and nine other outlaws for their alleged involvement in bootlegging, theft and possession of fake currency.
A police spokesman said the Aabpara police arrested Yasir Ayaz for possession of a 30-bore pistol and a dagger while ASI Muhammad Usman from Kohsar police arrested two mobile snatchers, Sadam and Shamashad, besides recovering stolen mobiles from them.
Tarnol police Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ejaz nabbed Tasneem Bibi for possession of 420 gram hashish. Sabzimandi Police arrested Shahid Yusuf and recovered fake currency worth Rs 50,000 from him.
Meanwhile, the CIA police also arrested an alleged bootlegger, Naveed Ilyas and recovered 30 liquor bottles from him while Sub Inspector Sher Muhammad nabbed a dacoit, Sultan Mehmud. The Sihala police arrested two thieves, Adeel and Nabil. Kohsar police ASI Zafar nabbed Imdad Hussain, a proclaimed offender.
Shalimar police ASI Zulfiqar Ali arrested another proclaimed offender Yusuf Zeeshan. Both of them were wanted for their involvement in various crimes.
Police seize 14 kg hashish : The Sabzi Mandi police recovered 14 kilograms of hashish during a special checking of a truck at an entrance point of the city near the toll plaza and started investigations from the truck’s two occupants to trace out the gang involved in drug smuggling,
A police spokesman said a Sabzimandi Police Station team stopped a truck (DIK-1680) they suspected and recovered 14 kilogram hashish from it. The two occupants of the truck, including the crew Fazal Gul, a resident of Peshawar and Fanoos Khan were arrested.
In a press release, SSP Muhammad Yousuf Malik appreciated the performance of the Sabzi Mandi police station and said the same team also recovered five kilograms of heroin and several mounds of hashish during last December.
He said the Islamabad Police is very vigilant in ensuring the citizen’s protection and that the policemen should be appreciated for performing their duties, even in tough weather.
Four-day workshop on digital learning from 27th: National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad, and British Council will collaborate for professional growth of teachers and learners and to enhance the professional competencies of faculty members for awareness of global trends in teaching and learning.
The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) at NUML is organising a four-day workshop on digital learning from February 27 to March 1 as a joint programme of NUML and British Council for the faculty members of NUML Teaching English Language/Communication Skills.
The participants are from seven regional campuses of NUML – Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Multan as well as the main campus at Islamabad. Mr Nik Peachey, international learning technology consultant, will be the resource person of this workshop.
