Former Pakistan Air Force (PAF) chief Air Marshal (r) Nur Khan was paid glowing tributes at a ceremony held to mark his birth anniversary at the PAF Headquarters on Wednesday. Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman and others attended the event, including Nur’s family. Suleman unveiled a commemorative postage stamp of Rs 8 launched by Pakistan Post to acknowledge Nur’s services. Speaking on the occasion, the air chief paid glowing tributes to Nur and declared him as an ace fighter pilot and a visionary commander.
He said that Nur showed his true colour, when he was given the prestigious command of PAF on July 23, 1965. As air chief, Nur established the foundation of aggressive tactics, construed the time according to the situation and adopted ways and means that were in the best interest of the service, he added. The air chief also mentioned efforts of Nur for bringing PIA at par with other international airlines by acquiring modern planes.
Sharing his life experience with the legendary hero, Air Marshal (r) Asghar Khan said that he was a very proud, patriotic, devoted and a decorated son of Pakistan. A documentary covering the life and achievements of Nur, produced by PTV, was also shown. The PAF Auditorium was also renamed as Nur Khan Auditorium. Suleman also presented a crest to Begum Farhat Nur Khan.
