Punjab govt committed to develop sports culture in province: Hamza

Mian Hamza Shahbaz has outlined the Punjab government’s commitment towards sports development and its uplift and stressed that it was due to that PML (N) government’s commitment that Punjab Sport Festival was launched in the province to develop sports culture. Addressing a press conference here Monday, MNA Hamza Shahbaz and Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood Ahmed Khan said: “It’s a big achievement of the Punjab government that all the deserted grounds of the province were again filled with sportsmen and are now being used for sports only.
“There would be no unauthorized encroachers to occupy these grounds and a law for this will be properly approved by Punjab Assembly soon,” he maintained. He also informed that a number of players have been identified at grass root level and this sports festival will be played throughout in the upcoming years. Secretary Sports Allah Bakhsh, advisor to Chief Minister Ijaz Gull and DG Sports Punjab Usman Anwar were present also preset on the occasion. On the last day of Inter-tehsil Sports Festival final of kabaddi, athletics, volleyball and hockey were held.
In athletics girls college competitions, Hina Iqbal of Lahore College bagged first position in 100 m race, Iqbal Bano achieved first position in 200m. In 400 m, Ghazal Sadiq got first while in 800 m, Aroosa Rehmat from Kuliatul Binat achieved first position.
In 1500 m, Misbah Afzal attained first place, Asmat Rehmat was the winner for long jump while Sadaf Qamar won the shot-put event. Sadia Iqbal from Government College Township secured first position in javelin throw. In the overall results, Lahore College for Women University with 26 points was first whereas Government College Township was second with 18 points. In kabaddi college boys, Punjab College of Commerce beat Government Raiwind College 50-34. Punjab College of Commerce defeated MAO College 55-30. Ikhwan College Burki beat Government Gulberg College 50-40. In the volleyball final, Government Gulberg College beat Government Collge Lahore 3-2. In the inter-college hockey girls, Kinnaird College outplayed Lahore College for women 2-1.
