The prices of edible oil and ghee are likely to witness a significant increase from Tuesday after the ghee and cooking oil mills across the country were shut down to protest the burning of four National Logistics Cell’s tankers at Port Qasim.
The strike was announced by Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA) Chairman Sheikh Abdul Waheed on Monday.
At a press conference held at the Islamabad National Press Club, Waheed said: “The private tankers mafia burnt the four Logistics Cell tankers which were carrying edible oil and ghee consignments worth 7 crores.”
He added that the PVMA had shut down cooking oil mills from Saturday (February 18) following the incident. He stated that the edible oil and ghee industry had suffered massive damage because of the incident and that the tanker mafia’s antics had had caused the industry to suffer for the past ten years.
