‘Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway construction to start in March’

The construction work of the 132-kilometre Karachi- Hyderabad Motorway will start from the mid of March, Federal Communication Minister Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan said on Monday. He was addressing as the chief guest at a seminar, organised by the National Highway and Motorway police on road safety. He said the National Highway Authority (NHA) has signed contract with a Malaysian company for the implementation of the project, which will cost Rs 25 billion. The minister said Pakistan needs Rs 120 billion to repair its roads, which have been damaged due to the plying of heavy vehicles that transport NATO supplies to Afghanistan. He said single axle trucks, used for transportation of goods, are also damaging roads and the NHA is working on various projects to minimise the wear and tear.
