Scores of women on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Parliament House against the growing domestic violence incidents in the country. The demonstration was organised by the civil society of the capital. Carrying placards in their hands, the protesting women raised slogans against domestic violence and demanded legislation on the issue. “Say no to Domestic Violence” and We Condemn Domestic Violence,” read placards.
The demonstration was led by human rights activist Dr Farzan Bari. Women parliamentarians, including Shirala Malik of MQM, Farah Aqeel Shah of ANP and PML Senator Nilofar- Bakhtiar also participated in the protest to express solidarity with the protesting women. “All women of the country are united against domestic violence and demand a strict law to curb this menace,” said Dr Farzana.
