Chandni Chowk flyover would be inaugurated on March 11 as the construction work on mega project was being completed swiftly, said Punjab Planning and Development Minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor, while talking to reporters during his visit to the flyover project site on Monday. The Punjab government was providing hefty amounts for the development of the Rawalpindi city and several mega development projects, including Chandni Chowk flyover, were being completed, he said. The ongoing mega development projects in Rawalpindi would be completed as per schedule to provide relief to the citizens, he added. He further said the inauguration of Chandni Chowk flyover would be held on March 11, two days before the completion date of March 13.
Earlier during a briefing the minister was informed that the total cost of the project was Rs 1.216 billion out of which the construction cost was Rs 996 million. The construction work on the flyover project covering junction of Chandni Chowk and Rawal Road commenced on November 5, 2011, and its completion period was 130 days. The length of the flyover is 403 meters. On an average, 128,900 vehicles pass through this junction daily and the flyover will help solve the traffic mess problems on the road, particularly at Chandni Chowk, which had been a great concern of the motorists and commuters as well.
He was also told that so far about 74 percent physical progress of the overall construction work had been completed while the remaining work would be finalized by March 11.
The minister said that the widening and reconstruction work of Golra Road had been completed while the construction work of an overhead bridge on Chohar Chowk had been proposed.
He added that the officers of the nation-building departments had been directed to expedite construction work on the ongoing projects to ensure their completion in accordance with the schedule.
