Jahangir sets new record in GCU annual sports

Government College University Lahore intermediate student Adnan Jahangir has set a new record in triple jump on the second day of the GCU 112th Annual Sports that ended with the participation of 600 students and teachers in 22 various track and field events.
Adnan jumped to 13.75 metres to pass his previous best of 13.64 metres that was set last year. Earlier, the record was kept by Farooq Hamid since 1963.
“The beauty of the GCU Annual Sports lies in collective participation of students, teachers and Old Ravians, said GCU Political Science Department Chairperson while addressing the prize distribution ceremony at the second day of annual sports. He said that students draw inspiration from teachers who instil the real essence of healthy competition among the sportsmen.
Later, Muhammad Saddique Akbar of Urdu Department won the 5000 metres race; finishing the race in 17:18:88 seconds. Sadiq Akbar also won the 1500 meters race by covering the distance in 4:31:00 seconds. However, in 100 metres final, Muhammad Qasim reached the finishing line in 11:16 seconds to win gold medal. This year too, Adnan Aslam hailing from Urdu Department won the pole vault. Intermediate students won the 4×100 meters relay while Urdu Department stood second. History repeats itself, the saying proved true when Aleemur Rehman of Geography Department was declared winner of discus throw whereas; Khursheed Ahmed from Political Science Department won the 400 meters hurdles race.
In hammer throw, intermediate student Irfanullah bagged the first position. His throw covered the distance of 44.75 metres. Earlier, team Bio-Technology (girls) secured the first position in 4×100 metres relay race. The GCU Physics Department faculty members won the 4×100 metres staff relay race.
