Corrupt judges under LHC hammer

The Lahore High Court’s Administrative Committee (AC) headed by Chief Justice Azmat Saeed, transacting its administrative business on Saturday, dismissed Civil Judge Muhammad Riaz Khurran on charges of corruption and imposed penalties on many others. AC comprising of seven LHC judges dropped disciplinary proceedings against four judges of the district judiciary.
As per details, Civil Judge Riaz Khurran has been dismissed from service and a minor penalty of censure has been imposed upon Senior Civil Judge Rana Muhammad Khan while another minor penalty for withholding of promotion for one year was imposed upon Civil Judge Muhammad Mazhar Mahar. De novo proceedings have been initiated against Civil Judge Mujahid Abbas and fresh disciplinary proceedings have been started against Additional District and Session Judge (AS&SJ) Zubair Shahzad. The proceedings against AS&SJ Shafiq Chaudhry, AD&SJ Mehboob Ahmed Khan, Civil Judge Saleem Sheikh and Civil Judge Hassan Abbas were dropped by the committee.
The AC issued notice to Civil Judge Hayat Gondal for enhancement of his minor penalty, while a show cause notice was issued to three judicial officers including AD&SJ, Ali Raza Awan, AD&SJ Sadaqat ullah Khan and Civil Judge Dawood Sahi. The committee, however, reinstated ex Civil Judge Saira Naureen in service after clearing her from all allegations.
