Owing to ill-planning, the Emergency Department of the Capital Development Authority’s Capital Hospital is facing acute water shortage over lack of underground and rooftop water reservoirs. A doctor in the hospital said, that ever since the establishment of the emergency department there was no proper system for provision of water, which was being supplied from a water tank situated in Sector G-6 through a separate line. He said being an emergency department it should be given continuous water supply to facilitate patients and the staff.
Among other problems there were 72 toilets in the department, none of them receiving water during shortage time causing a lot of inconvenience to the people, he added. A staff member of the emergency department said the administration was spending millions of rupees on other projects in which they receive kickbacks but the core issue of water is pending since the establishment of the emergency department. Spokesman of the Capital Hospital, Dr Fayaz Lodhi when contacted for comments, said that sector G-6 water tank was continuously supplying water to the emergency department. He said the leaked water pipe would be repaired within two days. The department is facing no water shortage, he claimed.
It is pertinent to mention that several government hospitals of the federal capital require urgent renovation and repair work and the delay is causing serious problems for patients. Many of the bathrooms lack cleanliness and this needs to be addressed on an urgent basis, to solve the quagmire of capital dwellers.
