In order to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to execute various social welfare projects being undertaken by Benazir Income Support Programme, the executive board meeting of the BISP was held at its secretariat on Sunday.
The meeting was presided over by BISP Chairperson Farzana Raja while its board members, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami, Federal Finance Minister Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Social Sector Shehnaz Wazir Ali, Silk Bank Chairman Shaukat Tareen, IBA Dean Dr Ishrat Hussain, Professor of Economics at LUMS Ijaz Nabi, Centre for Philanthropy Chairman Shams Lakha and BISP Secretary Muhammad Sher Khan were also present.
According to an official handout, the board members were given a comprehensive briefing on various social welfare initiatives being undertaken by BISP like cash grants, Waseela-e-Haq, Waseela-e-Rozgar, Waseela-e-Sehat for the poor. They were also briefed on the upcoming project of Waseela-e-Taleem. It further stated that the members supported the noble mission of BISP and showed keen interest in these initiatives. The progress made so far by the BISP was reviewed and various structural and operational aspects were discussed to further enhance the efficacy and performance of the programme.
