Sale of unhygienic food business is on the rise in Commercial Market, Satellite Town due to the negligence of the health department. Restaurants, tea and mobile food vendors are selling substandard food to customers at high prices without displaying the price list and charging Rs20 for a teacup and Rs70 to 90 for a single plate of vegetable and curry.
Majority of costumers living in the market are students or professionals who have come from far-flung areas either to get education or to do a job. They are left with no other option except to dine from these restaurants. “Hotel owners are serving cooked food in dirty utensils, causing health problems, including food poisoning and diarrhea. Comparatively they are charging high prices than other areas”, Shahid Iqbal a professional said.
Meanwhile, the vendors are also using contaminated spices to cook food, as the concerned department is not implementing a check system and food inspectors of health department never paid any visit in the market. The residents appealed to the concerned authority to take stern action against all those found involved in selling unhygienic and costly food.
