Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday predicted fresh spell of rain in the federal capital with snowfall over hills in its adjoining parts from Sunday to Tuesday. According to Met analysis, fresh westerly wave is likely to approach Pakistan on Sunday causing scattered rain in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwan, North Balochistan, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. Under the influence of this westerly waves more snow is expected over the hills of Murree, Galliyat, Northern areas, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Monday to Tuesday. A PMD official warned people to avoid going to Murree and Nathiagali in the days of heavy snowfall because of blockade of roads. Last time, thousands of visitors were stranded on roads due to heavy snowfall, he said.
Health experts said unexpectedly the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were in the grip of cold wave at this time of the year, therefore, people, particularly children, should cover themselves up with warm clothes to avoid weather-related diseases. They should increase intake of tea, chicken soup and coffee to avoid diseases, they suggested. On Saturday, the whole day remained under a thick blanket of clouds without rain but as shallow westerly trough is affecting north Balochistan and other parts of the country, it will produce isolated rain/snow over these places from today (Sunday) till Tuesday, the weather expert said, adding this weather system was likely to persist for three days.
