The 2nd SICAS Model United Nations (SiMUN) officially commenced its sessions on February 16. Delegations from educational institutes in and out of Lahore attended the opening ceremony which saw young diplomats discoursing ongoing cultural, political and social issues. The large turnout of over twenty five schools and colleges showed how SiMUN had managed to excelled over other local MUNs. The main objective behind the event is “to ride the waves of change in terms of social and economic strata.” SICAS has already been riding on this wave; its delegation has been winning accolades on national and international forums, as their efforts to change the global perspective are recognised. The ceremony started off with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address from the school principal, Shehryar Salamat.
“Our goal is to develop leaders of tomorrow by nurturing students of today,” he said. He explained the quintessence of MUNs by referring to the African Union and the Arab Spring as prime examples of youth collectives. Ashab Shahzad and Usman Rana Majid, president and vice president of the SICAS MUN society, also welcomed the delegates. The event will go on till Sunday and the delegates will deliberate upon issues of social justice, welfare and war and peace to vie for the best delegation award. To offer the delegates relief from the proceedings of the day the Host Team has arranged for several events including a performance by Quratulain Baloch and Entity Paradigm on the 17th.
