Punjab Sports Festival third phase begins

The third phase of Inter-tehsil Level Sports event of the Punjab Sports Festival 2012 started here on Thursday at all the 26 districts of the province. The Inter-tehsil winning teams participated in all 13 games including cricket tapeball, karate, taekwondo, basketball, volleyball, hockey, weightlifting, wrestling, kabaddi, athletics, badminton and football.
In Lahore, Marina Masood from Kinnaird School won the 100 metre race and Asma Khalid from Society School was second. In 200 metre, Rabia Sadiq from Yasmeen School Lalpul got the first position while Marina Masood from Kinnaird School was second.
In 400 metre, Naima from Kinnaird School was the winner and Mahnoor from Singhpura School was second. In 800 metre, Mehak from Kinnaird School was winner whereas Irum from Government High School Dryport Mughalpura was second. In 1500 metre, Mafia from Government HS Dryport Mughalpura got first place, Khizra from Kinnaird School was second. Atiqa Akram from Kinnaird School secured first position in long jump and javelin throw while Sabahat from Kinnaird School was the winner of the shot-put. In football matches boys schools, Government HS Shahdra beat Government HS Jallomore 5-2. In general public football, Cantt/Shalamar beat Model Town 1-0. In general public basketball, Model Town beat Shalamar Town 43-27 and Lahore City defeated Model Town 47-38.
In volleyball tournaments, Lahore Cantt beat Lahore City 3-1 while in the volleyball girls schools, Government HS Samanabad defeated The Lahore School Model Town 2-0 with a of 25-2, 25-7 and 25-9. For third position, Samanabad School thrashed Kinnaird School 3-0 (25-10, 25-15 and 25-2). In karate general public competitions, Lahore City was the winner with 40 points, Lahore Cantt secured second position with 30 and Model Town with 20 points was third.
In boys school karate, Lahore City was winner 40 points, Cantt was second 30 points and Model Town third 20 points.
In boys college karate, Superior College secured first position with 30 points, Punjab College was second with 20 points while Cantt College with 15 points was third.
The opening ceremonies of Inter-tehsil competitions of the festival were held at Iqbal Park Sports Complex and Railway Stadium. MPA Waseem Qadir and MPA Rana Iqbal performed the opening ceremonies of wrestling and kabaddi competitions.
In kabaddi, Model Town beat Cantt by 20 points and in wrestling 62 kgs category, Sarwar got first position while Faisal from Cantt was second. In 77 kgs, Naeem from Lahore City was first and Riaz from Model Town second.
