During the month of January, the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) disbursed a total amount of Rs 892 million among its beneficiaries.
This was disclosed by EOBI South Director General (Operations) Javed Iqbal on Wednesday.
“During the same month, the EOBI registered 503 new employers, 22,776 employees and approved 1,981 new pension claims, including 1,095 old age, 36 invalidity, 687 survivors and 163 old age grant claims,” he said. “There are now 83,162 employers and 4,865,298 insured persons have been registered since the inception of EOB Scheme and the number of beneficiaries has reached 424,930.”
Iqbal said the EOBI collected Rs 868 million as EOB contribution from the registered employers and employees during the same month, adding that the EOBI has started disbursement of pension through Telenor’s EasyPaisa scheme, a mobile banking service in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, EOBI Chairman Zafar Iqbal Gondal said that through EasyPaisa, the welfare organisation aims to make lives easier for the aged, disabled and heirs of deceased pensioners. “It is another step towards providing convenience to our aged and respectable pensioners,” he added.
EOBI is a prime organisation for labour welfare in the country that provides benefits to the employees of private sector, industrial and commercial establishments during their old age, retirement and after their demise to their survivors.
The EOBI also advised its pensioners to register themselves at their nearest Telenor franchise or the Tameer Micro Finance Bank branch with their EOBI pension book and original identity card. Once registered, the beneficiaries can withdraw pension from the designated EasyPaisa outlets across Pakistan.
