As many as eight public sector universities of Pakistan have formed country’s first ever inter-university consortium for the promotion of social sciences, arts and humanities. These universities include Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, University of Gujrat, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, Government College University, Faisalabad, University of Baluchistan, Quetta, Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar, Bahauddin Zakriya University, Multan, and Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The Islamia University has been nominated as the first chair of inter-university consortium for the promotion of social sciences, arts and humanities for one year.
Higher Education Commission (HEC) Executive Director Prof Dr Sohail H Naqvi and Chairman National Committee for Development of Social Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin and other academic as well as civil society circles greeted Islamia University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Mukhtar and assured their utmost cooperation for improving the state of social sciences in Pakistan.
