If Aitzaz Ahsan can become a counsel of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in a contempt case, then what stops him from fighting the case of hundreds of innocent missing persons, said Defence of Human Rights (DHR) Chairperson Amina Masood Janjua on Wednesday.
Addressing a huge gathering at Parade Avenue (D-Chowk) along with a number of relatives of missing persons, emotionally charged Janjua questioned the absence of vocal leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Pakistan Muslim League- N and the Pakistan People’s Party. “I have personally invited Imran Khan, Mian Nawaz Sharif and Munawwar Hasan but they are engaged in holding protest rallies to snub their political rivals for point scoring and none of them is willing to stand for the cause of missing persons.”
“This is a movement, and which will not end due to damn care attitude of our rulers. Allah will fight our case, and we are quite optimistic in this regard,” Janjua said in her shivering voice.
Former MNA Marvi Memon, rights activist Dr Farzana Bari and relatives of missing persons also addressed on the occasion. A large number of missing persons’ relatives and rights’ activist joined the protest by carrying banners, placards and photographs of missing persons.
They said that they would continue their sit-in and protests in future unless they meet their beloved ones.
Amina Masood Janjua said this issue would not be over until parliamentarians and party leaders join them in their fight for missing persons. “If all party leaders gather at D-Chowk and stage a single massive rally and protest, the relatives of missing persons will meet their loved ones the next day. But no one will do it because this is a human issue but the political one,” Janjua added.
After the restoration of judiciary, Janjua said Justice Javed Iqbal gave us assurances to resolve this issue but neither our voice was heard nor anyone came towards us. Condemning the recent disappearance of Zafar Iqbal from Sukker, Janjua said agencies and organisations were established for the welfare of countrymen but our secret agencies and organisations were snatching their family members.
