A demonstration with bodies of seven Pashtun labourers – killed by unidentified attackers in Turbat, Balochistan – was staged at the Super Highway on Wednesday.
According to details, unidentified assailants forced their way into a construction workers camp located 3 kilometres from Baleeda Road in Turbat, pulled seven Pashtun labourers out of the camp and gunned them down.
The victims – 33-year-old Azmatullah Naseeb Khan, his 25-year-old brother Zaram Deen, 25-year-old Muhammad Rafiq Baroz Khan, Sheikh Salam Barkat Khan, Bashir Aman Khan, Mandi Khan, and Shamullah – were road construction workers.
Their bodies were shifted to the Edhi mortuary on the Super Highway in Karachi.
Following the funeral prayers of the construction workers, their bodies were lain on the Super Highway to stage a protest against their killing.
The enraged demonstrators demanded immediate action against the culprits and continued their protest for hours, causing massive traffic gridlocks.
Safeer Mehsud, a cousin to one of the deceased, said, “The attackers not only killed the labourers, but they also pushed the lives of their families into darkness, as the victims were the breadwinners of their families.”
Mehsud said the culprits must be immediately arrested, and also demanded compensation for the family members of all the victims.
After the demonstration ended, the bodies of the labourers were sent to their hometowns in Swat and Waziristan.
