After induction of various better facilities, including enhanced space and a number of computers, the Lincoln Corner Karachi reopened on Tuesday at the Rangoonwala Community Centre (RCC).
Lincoln Corners are partnerships between the Public Affairs sections of the US Embassy and host institutions that provide access to current and reliable information about the US via book collections, current magazines, Internet, multimedia resources and local programming open to the general public. US Country Public Affairs Officer Mitchell Moss, who was on a visit to Karachi, inaugurated the renovated Lincoln Corner Karachi amid a graceful ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the Karachi corner was established in 2006 to promote friendship between the US and Pakistan through multimedia resources, English language materials, information about studying in the US and lectures on topics of interest to the people of Karachi “The US and Pakistan have prolonged friendly relations that would be continued and further enhanced,” he said, vowing to enhance bilateral cooperation in the education sector. Leading librarians from various organisations of Karachi and underprivileged students of ThesFo School System were also present at the ceremony.
Earlier, in a meeting with directors of Rangoonwala Community Centre, Moss was informed that the centre was being run as a welfare organisation that offers various educational and skill-based courses besides also supporting a large number of handicapped and needy people in earning livelihoods.
Moss was also told that RCC library, where the Lincoln Corner Karachi was established, facilitates students without any cost. RCC Executive Trustee Tariq Rangoonwala and Moss further agreed to continue cooperation in the field of education. At the ceremony, US Consulate in Karachi Public Affairs Officer Kevin Murakami and Cultural Affairs Officer Anthony Jones were also present.
