YDA on strike against sacking of senior doctors

The Young Doctors Association in the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) continued their strike Wednesday against the sacking of Chief Executive, Medical Superintendent (MS) and Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) of the hospital.
According to details, the young doctors were protesting against the provincial government for allegedly victimising senior doctors of PIC by removing them from their positions without proven charges against them after deaths from fatal reaction to medicines among heart patients.
Young doctors had stopped working in Indoor Patients Department (IPD) and Outdoor Patients Department (OPD) of Lahore hospitals in protest against suspension of senior doctors on Monday.
The YDA has also closed down the indoor facility at Punjab Institute of Cardiology in protest against non acceptance of their demand.
Talking to a private channel YDA president, Dr Aamir said that that 10 scheduled heart operations in PIC have been postponed and only emergency cases were being attended.
He said that due to the strike, 100 cases of Angiography, Angioplasty and 50 cases of Echocardiography had to be postponed.
According to young doctors, the Punjab government was violating the Supreme Court orders and victimizing the senior doctors. They have demanded urgent restoration of the suspended doctors.
The protesters took out rally on road from PIC and chanted slogans against the sacking of their seniors. They warned that they would continue protest till restoration of the doctors fired in drug reactions case.
On the other hand, the patients and their families faced problems and they had to take their dear ones to private clinics putting heavy burden on their meagre resources.
The Punjab government was of the view that the strike of YDA is in violation of the Supreme Court orders.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the doctors should wait the judicial inquiry commission’s report in this regard because over 140 hearts patients have died from spurious drugs reaction.
He advised the doctors to respect their honourable jobs, adding the YDA strike was illegal and violation of the Supreme Court order.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has challenged young doctor’s strike against sacking of Chief Executive, Medical Superintendent (MS) and Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) in the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The petition was filed in the LHC in which the attention of the High Court was drawn to YDA’s strike in violation of Supreme Court’s order and it was requested that their licences should be cancelled.
