Students, lawyers and civil society activists from Gilgit-Baltistan staged a protest demonstration Tuesday against the appointment of chief judge of the supreme appellate court of Gilgit-Baltistan. The protesters demanded of the government to remove the newly-appointed chief judge belonging to Punjab province and demanded the appointment of a local judge for the chief appellate court of their province. They were of the view that Chief Judge Rana Rashid was already dismissed from the Lahore High Court under order no 1996 P324 of PLD by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Besides, he did not belong to the soil of Gilgit-Baltistan, they alleged. The angry protestors chanted slogans during the protest and demanded to appoint a local judge belonging to the soil where the court is situated.
