The Sindh Education Department with the aid of the World Bank has appointed thousands of teachers on merit, Senior Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq claimed on Monday.
“This has improved the quality of education in the province. However, it is the need of the hour that hard work be done to improve the literacy rate and quality education,” he added.  The minister was speaking to the media at the concluding ceremony of the Sindh Education Partners Forum at the Sindh Secretariat building.
“We should work on a war-footing basis to promote and improve education in Sindh,” he said.
The minister appreciated the role of international donors in opening closed schools in the province, initiating curriculum activities, improving girls’ literacy rate and enhancing quality education.
“The Sindh government has recruited thousands of teachers on merit and the credit goes to the Pakistan People’s Party-led government,” he said.
He also warned that no political influence would be tolerated in educational institutions.
Haq said it is a fact that the educational system in Sindh has certain problems but with the vision given by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, they would be overcome. On the occasion, the minister awarded shields to the representatives of the World Bank, UNICEF, the European Union, JICA, the DFID and CIDA for their services.
