Habib Colony residents protested against the Pakistan Railways’ drive to evacuate ten houses in the area. They said that the railway authorities had given only a ten-day notice before the evacuation, saying that the houses were illegally constructed on Pakistan Railway’s land. “We have constructed our houses after getting ownership of the land and have been living here for the past 32 years,” residents said. Meanwhile, the railway authorities warned the residents that they had encroached on railway land and warned them to evacuate the land within the specified time frame otherwise stern action would be taken against them.
“Haji Nawaz Khan sold this land to us at Rs 3000 per marla in 1980 but we are facing this uncertain situation due to the connivance between the railway authorities and Haji Nawaz Khan,” they said. The residents appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the railway authorities concerned to setup an enquiry commission to investigate the matter.`
