More than 10,000 Pakistani nationals have either been killed or have gone missing as a result of the United States’ so-called War on Terror, Iranian state-run Press TV reported on Saturday.
Since September 11, 2001, thousands of Pakistani nationals have been killed in incidents of terrorism or have been abducted by intelligence agencies.
“Those violating the fundamental rights are really a danger to all citizens. Anyone can be picked up and be thrown into the detainment centre. This is the law, and nobody can question them. Even the Supreme Court, I feel, is becoming helpless before them,” lawyer of missing Pakistani nationals Tariq Asad said.
This is while only a few dozen of those missing have been put on trial on charges of involvement in terrorism. Most of them were acquitted by courts, but later illegally abducted by intelligence agencies.
To the disappointment of the Pakistani people, the Supreme Court has delayed issuing orders against such agencies, the report said.
More than 35,000 people have lost their lives in bombings and other militant attacks since 2001 when Pakistan entered an alliance with the US in its war against terrorism, according to Pakistani media.
Thousands more have been displaced by the wave of violence and militancy sweeping the country.
