Fire broke out in a mobile phone shop situated on the Hall Road and reduced electronic items and other valuables worth thousands of rupees to ashes, causing the locals to panic on Saturday.
The fire, caused due to short a circuit, only a day after the fire accident at the New Auriga Centre, raised a lot of alarm amongst the shopkeepers but was controlled in time.
Rescue 1122 fire service reached the scene within minutes after being informed of the fire and extinguished it after a hectic effort that continued for over two hours. Rescue 1122’s daily incident report said the fire broke out at the shop of one Sheikh Younis situated in Usama Center at Hall Road due to short circuit when a welder was busy in his work in the shop. The traders of market demanded reinstallation of the electric wire system saying the short circuiting had become an issue of real concern due to continuous incidents of fire. “We closed down our shops and left the plaza after we heard the news on the TV,” said Rahim Khan, a shop owner in Usama Centre, adding that he was grateful that the fire was controlled in time.
