The opposition senators on Friday sought explanation from the government over the statement of US Ambassador in Pakistan Cameron Munter that NATO was still using Pakistan’s airspace to transport supplies to Afghanistan.
Senator Prof Khurshid Ahmad raised the issue of NATO’s persistent violations of Pakistan’s air space in the Senate on a point of order. As there was no proper response from the treasury benches due to the absence of foreign and defence ministers, Prof Khurshid, Senator Zafar Ali Shah and several other members from the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) walked out in protest later. Prof Khurshid voiced his strong protest against NATO’s violation of Pakistan’s air space, and the government’s “tacit permission” as claimed by the US ambassador.
The JI senator said that NATO’s use of Pakistan’s air space was contrary to the assurance given by the government to the Parliamentary Committee on National Security that all NATO supplies through Pakistan had been suspended. “It is a very serious matter that the US and NATO forces are violating our sovereignty and the government and the Pakistan Air force have failed to respond to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty. They have also failed to implement the parliament’s resolutions on this issue in letter and spirit,” he added. Interior Minister Rehman Malik, while responding to the queries of lawmakers particularly from Balochistan on the worsening security situation in the province, said it was crucial that politicians play their role in countering the conspiracies to sever Balochistan from Pakistan.
He said a “third force” was involved in the killings in the province, adding that the bullets fired at the slain family members of Mir Bakhtiar Domki were not made in Pakistan. He said that law enforcement agencies had seized a heavy cache of weapons in a raid at the house of a Baloch insurgent in Turbat. He asked who was providing luxury vehicles, satellite phones and automatic weapons to Baloch insurgents. Senator Shahid Bugti was of the view that the Balochistan issue was political in nature, and that the minister should inform what steps he had taken to settle it. He asked the interior minister what steps had been taken to recover the missing persons in Balochistan, and the progress on the killings of three Baloch leaders in Turbat and Nawab Akbar Bugti.
The Senate also passed the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University Bill, 2011 unanimously before it was prorogued san die.

  1. With U.S. Congress blatantly interfering in Pakistan's internal affairs by mischivious hearings on Baluchistan and openly suggesting separating Baluchistan from Pakistan, it is time for Pakistan to stop all US & NATO flights over Pakistan.

Ambassador Munter has quite rightly pointed out that while Pakistan has shut the land route, the air corridor is still open to NATO forces. it is time to shut down this corridor too. It should remain shut until President Obama apologizes to Pakistan for the death of 24 soldiers at border posts and until U.S. Congress apologizes for starting there hearings. And if they don't, let both the air and land routes remain shut.

America is proving to be a wolf in sheep's clothing. While it calls itself a friend, it is plotting to split up and destroy Pakistan.

    • "While it calls itself a friend, it is plotting to split up and destroy Pakistan". This is actually an accurate description of what the US is doing. What America is doing to Pakistan is not just a short term cabal by the current US government, it has been the BASIS of US foreign policy and its State Department for decades..the policy of "divide and conquer", funding and arming opposing sides to cause civil war, chaos and bloodshed and thus weaken and break down a country to a primitive survival level for geopolitical control and control of a country's resources.

  2. While they are at it- ask them how faujji wives can go to dubai for shopping and come back without paying any taxes on shopping

  3. It is an established CIA strategy to create and back radical militant and jihadist groups, at the same time pretending friendship against a "common enemy" by donating money and arms to a government's military to fight those same rebels and militants, with the goal of taking over after the country has been thoroughly divided and destroyed. As in Iraq, The US and its NATO stooges have taken over as an illegal occupying force in Afghanistan, wrecking the country with its Nazi style occupation, genocide and planned internal conflict. The US/NATO have installed puppet government tyrants, hundreds of thousands of mercenaries in gated communities and an opium economy to impoverish and oppress the entire Afghan population.

  4. The American military model and its propaganda models for such invasions is directly guided by Nazi Germany's World War II strategies. If Pakistan has any hope of surviving and prospering as an independent nation, it will fire any officials taking US bribes, protect its airspace by shooting down all child killing drones (Pakistan is fully within its rights to do so, those drones are criminal and illegal and Pakistan has the air force to do this), block ALL NATO transports by sea or by air, kick out every last presence of US/NATO bases/contractor mercenaries/CIA from its country, and form military and trade pacts with friendly countries, such as Turkey, Russia, China and eventually form an alliance with Afghanistan once the illegal invaders have been booted out from that region.
