The Supreme Court on Friday once again ordered the Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) to arrest the killers of Balochistan provincial legislator Mir Bakhtiar Domki’s wife and daughter by February 24.
Unidentified men gunned down Domki’s wife and daughter, along with their driver on January 31 near the Gizri Bridge in Karachi’s upscale Defence Housing Authority. A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Tariq Parvez was hearing a suo motu case on the killings. Sindh IGP Mushtaq Shah and the Balochistan advocate general also appeared on notice.
The IGP submitted a progress report on the case, and said that two police officials Shabbir Sheikh and Khadam Rind had been deputed to investigate the murder. The chief justice expressed his dissatisfaction over the report, saying it lacked clear progress on the case. “This is a serious matter which has severe repercussions on Balochistan,” he said, adding that people were being assassinated without fear, and there was no protection of life and property in Karachi. Later, the bench adjourned the hearing until February 24. In a previous hearing of the case, the court had directed the Sindh IGP to arrest the killers by February 10, but no progress was made by the police.
