Punjab Govt to take solid measures for enhancing transport dept

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that provision of comfortable and quality transport facilities to the masses is the top priority of the government and solid steps have been taken for this purpose.
He said that modern transport service has been started in the provincial metropolis and its scope will soon be extended to other big cities of the province.
He said that work is also in progress speedily on the project of Bus Rapid Transit System and in the first phase, a 27 kilometer long track from Shahdara to Gajjumata will be laid. He said that after completion of this project, safe and speedy transport facilities will be available to the masses.
He was presiding over a meeting to review the pace of progress of Bus Rapid Transit System project and provision of transport facilities to the people, here today. Members National Assembly Mian Marghoob Ahmad, Bilal Yasin, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmad Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Transport, Brig. of NLC Shahid Majeed, District Coordination Officer Lahore and officers concerned were present. Director General LDA gave a detailed briefing regarding progress of the project.
Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that on the pattern of developed countries, transport system is being organized on modern lines in Lahore and other big cities of the province. He said that work has been started on the project of Bus Rapid Transit System in the provincial metropolis with the cooperation of Turkey and this project will be a shining example of Pak-Turk friendship.
He said that like other development projects, the project of Bus Rapid Transit System will be completed speedily in a transparent manner by working round the clock. He said that in the first phase, the track will be laid from General Hospital to Kalma Chowk, in the second phase, from Gajjumata to General Hospital and in the third phase, from Shahdara to Kalma Chowk.
