The Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) has increased the number of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) seats from 100 to 250 and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) seats from 50 to 100. Addressing the participants of a white coat ceremony at the KMDC, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said Rs 50 million are being provided to the college for the extension of faculty, lecture hall and dental laboratory, whereas Rs 8 million would be handed over for disbursement of employees’ salaries and dues.
Syed said the college is affiliated with some key medical institutions, including the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, the Sarfaraz Rafique Shaheed Hospital and the Spencer Eye Hospital, where KMDC students could find the opportunity to provide medical assistance. He congratulated the students on the start of a new academic session at the KMDC, and also announced Rs 500,000 cash award with a certificate for the first class first FCPS (Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons) position holder Muhammad Adnan Qureshi. The administrator said the renovation work of the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases and the Spencer Eye Hospital would be completed within the next six months, turning them into the best hospitals of Pakistan.
