Asserting that Awami National Party (ANP)’s Senator Ilyas Bilour has accepted the responsibility for bloodshed in Karachi, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Friday demanded that the Chief Justice of Pakistan should take suo motu notice of the statement made by the Pakhtun leader with reference to violence in the port city.
In an interview to a private television channel on February 9, Bilour had stated that it was not any Sindhi feudal lord but the ANP that reined in the MQM in Karachi.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, MQM Coordination Committee member Faisal Subzwari alleged that the ANP leader has admitted that the party is directly involved in the killing of MQM workers and sympathisers in Karachi and is also responsible for destroying the peaceful environment of the city through terrorism and bloodshed.
“Those whose hands are smeared with the blood of innocent people should be made to answer for their crimes and punished according to the law,” the Sindh Youth Affairs Minister said. “The fact of the matter is that the ANP government has failed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa because of its misdeeds and corruption. It is now fanning hatred, violence and bloodshed in Karachi and sacrificing at the altar of its hideous politics the peaceful Pakhtuns living in the city.”
Subzwari said that Bilour, in a brazen manner, had said that the ANP reined in the MQM in Karachi. “You know it very well that when a nakail [nose string] is passed through the nose of someone, he is first made powerless by tying the limbs,” he added.
“The statement made by the Pakhtun leader makes it very clear that the ANP made the MQM helpless by killing its workers, shedding their blood with impunity and cutting them to pieces without any fear,” the minister said.
The MQM leader pointed out that the family members of the people martyred in Karachi by “bloodthirsty killers” were seated at the press conference.
“The outpouring of Bilour regarding the MQM is an open admission of guilt that the continuous bloodshed in Karachi was carried out by the ANP, whose leaders, instead of showing remorse on the killing of innocent MQM workers and sympathisers, are expressing jubilation and presenting this as a feat in support of someone’s candidacy for the Senate, “ Subzwari said. “Senator Bilour has not only accepted the responsibility of killing the MQM workers, but also rubbed salt in the wounds of the people by his provocative statement.”
Speaking on behalf of the victim’s family members, the MQM minister appealed that the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry should provide justice to the heirs of the people martyred in Karachi and bring to book the killers of their loved-ones.
“The MQM has been making practical efforts for promotion of peace and brotherly relations among various linguistic and ethnic entities living in Karachi, but it is now clear who is trying to spread hatred by making inflammatory statements,” he said.
“We appeal to all the democratic political parties that believe in the dignity of mankind to take notice of the statement of Senator Bilour and condemn it,” Subzwari concluded.

  1. I do not understand what is Sabzwari waffling about. He is implying that the MQM was innocent and was not involved in target killings. It is strange that MQM leader has drawn his own calculation from Mr Billour's statement to absolve MQM of heinous crimes it has committed since long time. No one is going to believe Sabzwari who is branding murdered thugs of the MQM as martyrs.
