The All-Pakistan Alliance for Katchi Abadis has slammed the eviction drive against katchi abadi dwellers on Railways land across the country and warned that if the operation was not stopped with immediate effect a resistance movement would be launched. The Alliance has demanded that all railway officers and police officials who have ordered the evictions without adequate notice to be issued with show-cause notices and that action should be taken against them Chairperson Aasim Sajjad Akhtar, President Zahid Anjum and Nadeem Murad have said that the current operation was reminiscent of the one launched by then Railways Minister General Javed Ashraf Qazi in 1999 during which influential elements were spared while retired Railways employees and widows were thrown out of their kutcha homes built next to Railway Quarters. They said that during the past few days, poor people with no alternative homes have been targeted in brutal operations in Quetta, Lahore, Sialkot, and numerous other cities.
