US Congress discusses Balochistan again

The United States Committee on Foreign Affairs convened a congressional meeting on Thursday for an exclusive discussion on the situation in Balochistan. The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) held a session to discuss the targeted killings and human rights violations in Balochistan and termed it a matter requiring urgent attention. He also co-authored an article a few days ago favouring an independent Balochistan.
In his opening remarks, Rohrabacher said Balochistan was a turbulent land marred by human rights violations “by regimes that are against US values”. He said human rights violations were also there in Balochistan, even though the province had vital strategic importance. Human Rights Watch (HRW) Pakistan Director Ali Dayan Hasan said in his submitted remarks that cases documented by the HRW showed Pakistan’s security forces and its intelligence agencies were involved in the enforced disappearances of ethnic Balochs. He asked the US government in his recommendations to “communicate directly to the agencies responsible for disappearances and other abuses, to demand an end to abuses and facilitate criminal enquiries to hold perpetrators accountable”. He clarified that the HRW took no position on the issue of the independence of Balochistan.
He argued that the US and UK had made enforced disappearances possible by allowing them during the war on terror, which had led to the military doing the same. The hearing, which lasted a little over an hour, came to an end as congressmen decided to go to the floor for a vote. In his closing remarks, Rep Rohrabacher declared that the hearing was no stunt, and that they wanted to start a national dialogue on what US policy should be in that part of the world.
Addressing a news briefing here later, US State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said America did not support an independent Balochistan. Nuland confirmed the meeting on Balochistan but said the US position on Balochistan had not changed, adding that her country encouraged all the factions involved in the province to tackle all their differences peacefully and under the political process.

  1. Perhaps the Pakistani Parliament should open hearings on abuse of Muslims in the United States. Where the Quran has been burnt and where Senators and Congressmen openly chastise Islam.

It behooves the appropriate Committee Chair to start full televised hearings and invite Human Rights activists from U.S. to provide details of how Muslims are being abused in U.S.

    • Hmm…so are you suggesting the American's are torturing US Muslim citizens on the lines of the current operation in Balochistan? If they are then I would be the first to join you in demanding justice.
Otherwise the reality of the official killing and dumping of Pakistani Baloch citizens cannot be sanely compared to prejudiced American individuals criticizing a religion and its adherents.

    • Khane ke liye roti nahi..sar pe tirpaal nahi…..aur pahane ke liye kapde hai…and look at what he is saying ..that to against there master…..the USA…..think again …..you are living in the pittence thrown in by your American masters as a compensation for killing your fellow terrorists….$ 18 billion equivalent to your foreX reserve….you should shut up and obey orders like a good slave nation….Do you have any other option….No industry….no power ….no railways…..no economic activity..yeah ! you have the Terrorism which is exportable..try it…..but only for the last time….

      • I agree with u Pinata, although i'm a nationalist, Pakistani, still i agree with your points. Lets hope things change in positive manner. We, Pakistanis needs true leadership, which is loyal to country, not like thrives and thugs, like we have now a days. But believe me their days are counted.

  2. I think we should be ready for an increased insurrection in Balochistan and a sudden series of documentaries on BBC/CNN etc about how terrible Pakistan is.

Wake up Pakistan!! The enemy is not at the gates, he is through them.

  3. Wakeup the so called fortune makers of Pakistan, and not let the history to be repeated once again. But what can be done if justice is not done, the laws of nature speaks louder themselves.

  4. There is no freedom of speach in US and media is in full control of this hypocratic government. We should from now on keep a check on BBC, CNN and aljazera channels as they are at front of doing propaganda against Pakistan. US forgot all the human right voilations it commited and still commiting. What we need is an international news channel that can expose and show the world the true face of this hypocratic country.

  5. This is all due to the weak and Yes boss behavior of our leaders…..very serious issue if USA going to create a big big problem for Pakistan……..Govt and forces should take timely action and respond properly…….
On the other hand a proper dialogue with the Blochi youth and leaders required that can bring them into main stream…..

  6. poor pakis..getting slapped daily by ur US masters…dont worry ..pakis ur end is near…!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • You are right dear Bro…..They will not need USA 's help to destroy themselves….they are good at doing it themselves……and doing it effectively…they have a very good industry…really world famous….they are the greatest exporters of it…and they do it indigenously as well…..Think…….O Yeah…its the Terrorism……. Its a multi billion dollar industry….and that employs a lot of people too…half the Pakistani population and the entire army ,intelligence and the Moolah community…. last heard……US has already planned the names of the Prime minister of 5 countries after the formal disintegration of Pakistan…..Senate discussion is the first step…
