Miandad slams India for ignoring Pakistan cricketers

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has slammed the Indian cricket officials for continuously ignoring cricketing ties with Pakistan and not allowing the Pakistani cricketers to take part in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The sporting relations between the neighbouring countries have suffered majorly following the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. The two countries have not played a bilateral series since that fateful event, even though Pakistan has shown keenness many times to play against India.
Pakistani players took part in the inaugural season of the IPL and made a huge impact. Pakistan’s left arm fast bowler, Sohail Tanvir was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament. However, since then, the authorities have ignored Pakistani cricketers.
Some cricket analysts feel that it has been a blessing in disguise for Pakistan cricket because they feel that franchise cricket is a curse for the game. Some other pundits also believe that the IPL is one of the reasons behind the downfall of Indian cricket.
Javed quoted him feeling that it is extremely disappointing to see that Pakistan and India do not have cordial relations. There is a lot of confusion on part of the Indian authorities, so to why Pakistani players are not playing in the IPL. The legendary cricketer said, “It is unfortunate that Pakistanis are treated like untouchables as far as IPL is concerned. My question is, who is to be blamed? Is it the BCCI or the Indian government? One should come clear on whose decision is this, otherwise the blame game would continue and Pakistani cricketers will be deprived time and again.”
Commenting on the recent controversies to inflict Pakistan cricket, Maindad said that the act of a single individual does not mean the whole nation is similar. He also added that there are other players who are not Pakistani that have been banned from international cricket.”Mohammed Azharuddin was also banned for life (in the match-fixing scandal of 2000). He isn’t a Pakistani. There are individuals who tarnish the image of the sport and I feel they should be brought to book as individuals,” the great batsman of his time added.
