The Pakistan People’s Party government wants all citizens to not only have a roof over their head, but a place where they can live a decent life, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Thursday.
Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony of Kurri Housing Scheme, he said the state was responsible to explore all available options to provide people housing.
Gilani said that in his first speech in the National Assembly he had promised that the government will provide people affordable housing.
He said the promise was in line with the vision of Zulifiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. He said the current government remains committed to Pakistan People’s founding slogan: ‘Rotti, Kapra aur Makan.’ He said the Kurri housing scheme was a step towards realising that vision.
He said civil servants were the backbone of a system of governance since the execute government policy and give policy input. He said, “Satisfied state functionaries deliver to the best of their ability but unsatisfied workers become liabilities on the state exchequer.”
He said government servants deserve respectable living and the PHA affordable housing scheme was a good step in this direction. He said, “The present scheme at Kurri aims at providing residences to serving and retired civil servants on ownership basis at reasonable prices. It has been conceived by leading designers and professionals.”
He said, “The government’s priority is to establish public-private partnership on sustainable basis. I will direct PHA to establish collaborations with the private sector in the process of implementing the PM’s Housing Scheme.”
