Punjab Assembly (PA) Deputy Speaker Rana Mashood remained unhurt when eight robbers fired at his car on Wednesday in the Manga Mandi Police precincts. Mashood’s spokesman Rao Majid gave details of the incident while talking to Pakistan Today. He said that the PA deputy speaker was coming to Lahore from Vehari along with his personal assistant Usman and driver Badal when eight armed men forcibly stopped his car near Manga Mandi. As soon as the driver slowed down the car, the robbers fired at it but no casualties were reported. The driver took a U-turn towards Multan again, which saved their lives, he said. Majid said that one could not tell anything about the attackers, adding that the incident could be result of a political rivalry. Saddar Police SP Shoaib Khurram Jaanbaaz contradicted Majid’s statement and said that the incident was just a robbery. He said that the robbers did not fire at Mashood’s car, adding that the car ahead of the PA deputy speaker’s car was fired at. He said that robbers snatched Rs 12,000 and a cellular phone from driver Babar Niaz. Jaanbaaz said that Mashood’s driver Badal stopped the car at a safe distance from the robbers and took a U-turn. The SP said that a case will not be registered in this regard, as Mashood’s car was not attacked.
