The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced on Wednesday that it is launching a countrywide membership campaign from Thursday (today). Addressing a press conference at the Khursheed Begum Secretariat, the deputy convener of the party’s Rabita Committee, Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani said the decision to start the membership campaign has been made keeping in view of the people’s increasing interest in the MQM and the political philosophy of its founder and leader Altaf Hussain.
“Camps would be set up throughout the country in order to facilitate people and to inform them about the MQM and the political philosophy and ideology of Altaf Hussain,” he said.
“Elected representatives, office-bearers and activists of the MQM will be present at the camps to assist people,” he added.
Qaimkhani appealed to the masses to strengthen Hussain’s hands for bringing a real change in the country. He asked people to come forward and play their role in finding the solutions to the problems faced by the poor and middle-class people in the country.
“Every form of high-handedness was used against the MQM in the past. Conspiracies were hatched to keep the people away from the MQM, which is the only political party in the country having its roots in the poor and middle-class of the society,” he said.
“Although everything was done to impede the progress of the MQM and its appeal to the public, yet its message was gaining wide acceptance among the masses not only in Sindh but other parts of the country as well,” he added.
Qaimkhani said people across the country have realised that the MQM is the only political party in the country that truly represents the poor and middle-class people as there are no feudal lords or big industrialists in it.
“They [people] have also understood that there is no dynastic political culture in the MQM.”
He said the MQM has enabled honest, educated and able people from the poor and middle-class of the society to sit in the parliament. “The MQM believes that these people, whose hands are not tainted by the corruption pervading in the political system of the country, can bring a real change in the country.” Qaimkhani said the enlightened leadership of the party chief, the undying sacrifices rendered by the party’s martyrs and the committed struggle of its activists are the main reasons for the soaring popularity of the MQM.
