The second annual scientific conference was inaugurated on Wednesday at the Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) of Lahore General Hospital by University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice Chancellor Prof Hussain Mubbashar. The VC said the recent increase in the prices of medicines were not helping the economy at large as the multinational companies providing them were disregarding their ethical standards, showing more interest in generating maximum profits rather than helping patients. PGMI Principal Prof Tariq Salah-ud-Din said the institute had so far produced 3,000 graduates and would soon start doctorate programmes for various fields. He added that the two-day symposium would consist of 14 workshops in which 22 researchers would present their original works. Highlighting the importance of information technology and computing, Mubbasher said it could revolutionise the practice and teaching of medicine.
