Residents irked by CDA’s apathy

The residents of the capital city are facing inconvenience owing to the negligence of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) towards repairing roads and streets of various sectors which are in dilapidated condition. Residents alleged that the civic body is least concerned about ensuring proper maintenance of roads and streets, adding that most of the manholes are also lying open. Islamabad Citizens Forum President Raja Mushtaq Ahmad told Pakistan Today that they have decided to stage a protest against the negligence of CDA officials, if they do not fulfill their demand of repairing streets on an urgent basis.
He said that they have received many complaints from the residents of sector I/8, since construction work in their sector initiated by CDA, has been left incomplete. “We have asked CDA officials several times to repair streets and to cover open manholes but they do not pay heed towards our complaints,” he said, adding that now they have no option but to show strong resentment against the civic body.
Asad, an area resident, said the issue has been brought to CDA’s notice, adding that even the roads and streetlights are in poor condition. The residents of Sectors G-7, G-9 and I-10 also alleged the concerned authorities for their negligence in ensuring cleanliness, which resultantly leads to different diseases springing up in the locality. They said pedestrians avoid using footpaths due to overgrown bushes and prefer to walk alongside the roads, which also causes disruption in smooth traffic flow and might also lead to accidents.
